Exhibition "Melancholy". Moscow, 2022

“Melancholia” is a retrospective exhibition of monochrome photographs by Konstantin Chemeris. The exhibition includes key works from series created between 2000 and 2021. Some of the works became material for two author’s photo books “Smoke” (2000 - 2016) and “Labyrinth” (2017 - 2018). Another part (2019 - 2021) was included in the collection of visual essays “Detour Paths”.

The exhibition was exhibited from October 2 to October 13, 2022 at the “Gallery on Planernaya” at Moscow, st. Planernaya, building 7, building 1

In addition to the main exhibition, visitors got acquainted with the photo books “Smoke” and “Labyrinth”, created by the author in 2020.

Konstantin Chemeris is a specialist in the field of fine arts. Member of the Union of Photographers of Russia. Repeated winner of the State Scholarship in the field of photography. Author of two photo books. Conducts artistic experiments, mainly in the landscape genre. Prefers to use a monochrome palette. Strives for psychological associativity of the created images, choosing plots in which the forces of nature dominate man and his creations.

In his early works, the author, using digital technologies, achieves a graphic quality that refers the viewer to pencil drawings and photographic images of the early 20th century. Later works, starting in 2017, become sharper and more contrasting. The light tonality of the pictorial period is replaced by a gloomy contemplation of the traces of time, continuously and uncontrollably flowing through space.

The exhibition features 90 works:
44 pcs ~14x21 cm (frame 28x35 cm)
25 pcs ~20x30 cm (frame 40x50 cm)
9 pcs ~30x45 cm (frame 50x65 cm)
12 pcs ~40x60 cm (frame 60x80 cm)
The works are framed in black thin Nielsen frames, milk-colored passepartout, without glass. All works are available for subsequent exhibition in the original design.
